The building
Architect Edgar D. McGuire gave the Albert an impressive Spanish Colonial Revival-style front of brick and stone. It opened with 53 rooms for the salesmen and travellers working the warehouse district next door — and its opening was promptly overshadowed by the Fort Garry Hotel opening the same week.
The City of Winnipeg designated it a Winnipeg Landmark Heritage Structure on May 19, 1981. It still does the job it was built for.
